Putnam Valley Sunset Series Open Mic Night - Unplugged "Featured Stars And Created New Ones"
 | | The Acafellas perform during Open Mic Night |
| Putnam Valley Sunset Series set the ambiance, adorning the Open Mic Night stage with blue satin curtains in the midst of red accents to frame the performers. Metallic stars added to the glitter. Performers from ages 8 to senior citizen were inspired by environment with many commenting about the professional sound engineered by Corey Moeller with Matt Brady assisting.
Early on, the Sunset Series started to get inquiries, as an answer to the ads and press release in the papers. One performer, Huck Baxter, a 30-year veteran Country signer, on tour through the East Coast, said that he had a free evening and that he was looking for something fun to do.
Performers started to arrive almost an hour prior to the designated check-in. Each carefully waited and watched the sign-in sheet, timing their registry to get a chosen time slot. Mark Robinson was the first to brave the entry, and started off the Sunset Series first Open Mic Night, singing and playing classic rock. Next Mario Schiavone and Greg Kemp took the stage continuing with the theme. Later in the evening all three (with both acts just meeting that evening) joined forces for a classic rock finale with a trip down memory lane.
Huck Baxter took the stage, keeping with tradition of country, and inspired people in the audience to take home a souvenir CD. Georganne Millard's voice rang through the rafters leaving the audience in awe. Then Joe Dronzek stirred sections of the audience to dance. In the true spirit of the night, and also meeting for the first time, Georganne Mallard rejoined the stage to complement 8- year-old Amanda Mascarelli. The crowd reaction prompted Amanda to perform a second tune, asking Georganne to join her in the duet. Next Chris Cassone with Jim Nowak, the Sunset Series "Season Kick Off" opening act, kept their promise to the crowd, to come back and perform at Open Mic Night. Chris' signature song Route 22 was amazing.
Then PV Arts' Open Mike Night regulars, Nereida & Brian Roberts impressed the audience. Next a real treat by the Recreation Department's very own Senior Day Camp staff wowed the spectators. Acafellas, as the group is know, first sang their song traditionally in harmony then quickly switched the song into beat box. The first round concluded with Bob Cinque being persuaded by the viewers to perform.
This three hour show, attended by approximately 160 people, afforded the performers a finale of an additional song, to conclude the night. With the success of the evening, Sunset Series Director, Theodora Moeller, thanked all the performers for a spectacular show, plus the many staff and volunteers that helped make the performance happen. Then Ms Moeller announced that the Sunset Series would hold another "Open Mic Night" September 29th.
