| A June luncheon celebration was held at the William Koehler Putnam County Office for the Aging. This event brought together the Mahopac and Putnam Valley SeniorNet's RSVP volunteers and honored their more than five successful years of offering computer classes to local senior citizens. The concept of "Seniors Teaching Seniors" has introduced computer technology into the lives of hundreds of our seniors. The volunteers have been serving as instructors, coaches, administrators and board members of this SeniorNet. They have helped bring technology, computers and the Internet to their peers in the community. Well over five hundred students have been taking their classes each year in Mahopac and seventyfive in Putnam Valley.
The group that was honored at this luncheon were those who originally formed this SeniorNet over five years ago. Honored were Marisa Butler, James Eppinger, Lila Gluck, Cecily Goodman, Arline Hay- O'Brien, John Hayes, Marian Hayes, Bruce Heilman, Dorothy Killackey, Cathy O'Brien, Patty Osmer, Allen Pike, John Zaborney, and Ann Zale.
The Putnam County Office for the Aging sponsors this SeniorNet, and Mary White, the RSVP Director and her assistant, Terry Wolf, are their advisors. A beautiful plaque, inscribed with the names of the honorees, was presented, and will hang in the SeniorNet Computer Room of the William Koehler Senior Center.
SeniorNet is a national volunteer organization with over 5,000 volunteers worldwide. The classes have encouraged lifelong learning from computer literacy to fluency to mastery. This local SeniorNet has thirtytwo volunteers, and classes range from beginner to more advanced activities. Classes progress slowly to accommodate each student, with a coach for each two students, as well as a class instructor. Practice sessions are also offered at the Koehler Center. For more information about the classes, free workshops, and SeniorNet, call Coordinator Cathy O'Brien at 845-628-6423 or Email at cobrien c@bestweb.net.
