Recent Act of Decency Restores Faith Dear Editor:
We hope you'll make your readers aware of the recent act of decency and generosity my husband and I encountered in Cold Spring. After a lovely meal with friends at the Riverview Restaurant, I became distracted in the small parking lot and put my bag in an SUV parked right next to ours - same color and same size. Anyone can understand our panic when we discovered it missing minutes after leaving the premises. Subsequent search in and around the restaurant turned up nothing and we assumed the worst.
After an agonizing drive back to Long Island, you can imagine our relief when we found a message at home from my cellphone. The bag had been returned to the restaurant and the staff were kind enough to let us know. The next day, the owner Jim Ely offered to mail it to us and it arrived shortly thereafter, intact. If this does not restore faith in the goodness of people, I don't know what does. Hats off to Riverview Restaurant and Cold Spring for turning our nightmare around! We will visit again soon.
