Selecting Candidates to Run for Public Office
Dear Editor:

In order to respond to several inquiries regarding the process of selecting candidates, we request the following be made available to your readers.

The Philipstown Democratic Committee is the duly constituted representative body of registered voters affiliated with the Democratic Party. It derives its standing in accordance with New York State Election Law and the By-laws of the Putnam County Democratic Party.

The Philipstown Democratic Committee incurs both the privilege and the responsibility of identifying and evaluating individuals as candidates for public office. Effective communication, demonstrated Interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn, and recognition of the necessity to work together as a team, in various collaborative processes, on behalf of the community as a whole, are essential qualities the Committee looks for in candidates.

Nancy A. Montgomery, 163 Highland Rd., Cold Spring, and Catherine E. Lilburne, 1 Lovell Lane, Garrison, have received the endorsement of the Philipstown Democratic Committee as the candidates for the office of Town Council, Town of Philipstown.

Mr. Michael Gibbons (Putnam County News and Recorder, 8/8/7) states in his announcement "my friends and supporters have ensured that Philipstown residents get the opportunity to elect their own candidates during the Democratic primary . . .." This announcement states his rejection of the careful deliberations and decisions of the Philipstown Democratic Committee, his opposition to the endorsed candidates, and his dismissal of an enduring history that both Nancy Montgomery and Catherine Lilburne enjoy throughout all of Philipstown.

The Democratic Primary Election Is on Tuesday, September 18, 2007. Registered Democrats are eligible to vote in this Primary. Your vote will determine who receives the Democratic nomination for the office of Town Council in the General Election. Please call with any questions or for additional information.

Anyone in need of transportation to the polls, please call us for a ride. Remember to vote on Tuesday, September 18th, 6am-9pm.
Dorothy Gilman, Co-Chair
(424-3456),
