Urban Legend and Perpetrator Really Rock Putnam Valley Sunset Series

The Perpetrators at the Sunset Series
High temperatures did not deter fans from coming out to see their favorites, Urban Legend and Perpetrator, play at Leonard Wagner Memorial Park in Putnam Valley. There was a blanket of spectators to watch the combos' fabulous performances. The Sunset Series knew they really had a winner when they paired up these two popular classic rock bands. Both bands were no stranger to Putnam Valley as each had previously played at the Sunset Series and additionally at Putnam Valley's Town Day.

Perpetrator started the evening off with members Ray Ranalli on drums and vocals, Rich Newhook playing lead guitar, Robin Newhook singing lead vocals and playing guitar, Tom Slater playing guitar and harmonica, plus Doug Taub on bass. These seasoned musicians energized the crowd to their feet. This set the tone of the evening that kept the audience grooving to the beat all night. At the end of their set were shouts of "Encore! Encore!" Sunset Series director, Theodora Moeller asked the spectators "Do you want to hear more?", thus prompting Perpetrator to continue with another exhilarating song.

During the short break that followed, focus turned to the amazing PV Arts' Art in the Park exhibit. Jess Ellard has coordinated this collection of art by local artists including regulars, Esther McHenry, Red Todd, and Maureen Bloesch, at the Sunset Series concerts during the season. Carolyn Smith displayed her art, as well as exhibited her book, House of the Faun along with coordinating an Audubon Display. Newcomer, Steven Hertzal, representing the youth exhibit, drew some remarkable caricatures. This live demonstration created a long line of people eagerly waiting to be sketched.

The center of attention turned to Urban Legend, as they took the stage to close the evening. In a true spirit of Camaraderie, Urban Legend invited Ray Ranalli (of Perpetrator) to sit in on the first song. Urban Legend continued with veteran musicians Dennis Jarosz singing lead vocals and playing guitar, Pete Somma playing bass, and Corey Moeller on drums, acoustic guitar, plus vocals. Their rich rock, blues and jazz influences got the crowd tearing it up dancing to the beat. You could see people swaying and singing the lyrics of their favorite songs of their past. Crossing over through several genres during their two set performance, Urban Legend electrified the audience with their volatile mixture of soulful harmonic renditions, stringing guitar work, and pulsating beat. With the crowd demanding more at the end of the second set, Urban Legend concluded with an encore, an old time favorite song, that started off acoustically and ended rockin' the audience.
