Cathy Lilburne Announces Her Candidacy for the Philipstown Town Board
The Democratic primary, to be held September 18, will have Cathy Lilburne's name as one of the candidates for the Democratic line running for Town Councilman in the November election. The following is Ms. Lilburne's announment of her candidacy.
"I am honored to have been selected by the Democratic Committee as their endorsed candidate for Councilwoman for the Philipstown Town Board.
"I have lived in Garrison and Cold Spring since 1982 with my husband David and our sons William, Doug and Jonathan. After graduating from Lakeland High School and SUNY Binghamton, I had the opportunity to live with David in England and Australia. Recognizing it as a very special place, we chose Philipstown as a home for our family and business.
"During our years in Philipstown, our family has been involved in many volunteer activities. I have served on the Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES Board for the past four years, and on the Audit Committee for two years. Serving on the BOCES Board and the Garrison School Board, I have advocated in Albany for our communities, and I have forged good working relationships with our legislators. In Garrison, I created and managed the children's program at Highlands Country Club, and was on their board when it was a community-run club. I also helped in the successful effort to prevent Daytop's move to Glenclyffe in the early 90's. My eight years on the Garrison School Board taught me several things - that it is vital to reach out to the community and build consensus for important community decisions; that it is important to respect the public purse and balance the needs of various constituencies with the community's ability to pay; that we live in a community with a rich pool of talent, history and vitality. I am committed to conserving and building on these resources - to support our citizens and enhance our community, to sensibly shape and conserve our environment, and to preserve our history. I treasure what Philipstown has achieved.
"My husband David and I have been partners for 30 years in a successful old book, map and print business, Antipodean Books, Maps & Prints. As a small business owner, I have experience with all facets of business management such as planning, cash flow, marketing, internet and public relations.
"I favor a balanced, measured approach to issues. I approach them with an open mind, do my homework, work hard and I persevere. In a small community such as ours, it's important to work together. I am most interested to hear your thoughts on our town in the coming months. You can contact me @ 29 Garrison Landing, Garrison 10524; 424-3867 or 424-4732; lilburne@highlands.com."
