Almost 600 Help Kick Off Plans for Hudson Valley's Largest Breast Cancer Awareness Event
American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer set for October 21

Almost 600 people crammed Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor on Wednesday, August 15 to help kick off plans for the Hudson Valley's largest annual breast cancer awareness event, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Last year, more than 9,000 Hudson Valley residents - moms, dads, children, grandparents, co-workers, breast cancer survivors and their loved ones - descended on Woodbury Common Premium Outlets for the 5K walk to fight breast cancer raising $750,000 for the American Cancer Society. Organizers are hoping this year's event, scheduled for Sunday, October 21, will be even bigger.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a fun, memorable experience and a great way to get actively involved in the fight. Since 1993, Making Strides has been the American Cancer Society's premier event dedicated to raising awareness and dollars in support of breast cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services. The success of the event has enabled 3.5 million walkers nationwide to raise more than $230 million for the fight against breast cancer. Dollars raised at Making Strides fund research, help spread lifesaving breast cancer awareness messages, fund advocacy efforts for screening opportunities for all people, and help to ease the cancer burden for people facing the disease.

The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a rallying cry for awareness, the venue to remember those who fought and continue to fight breast cancer, and an opportunity for us all to make a difference in the lives of people with breast cancer. It is also a chance to educate women about the importance of early detection and help change the alarming decline in the number of women going for their potentially lifesaving annual mammogram.

The American Cancer Society has a presence in more than 3,400 communities across the country and is the only organization available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help people touched by cancer. Breast cancer is the number one reason people call the Society. When you support Making Strides, you are helping the Society seek better ways to prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer, as well as provide help and hope to people facing the disease.
