Slide Lecture: River Tales and Photos from Great Hudson River Paddle Hudson River Greenway Water Trail Coordinator shares story of this year's paddle
For the seventh time in seven years, a hardy group of outdoor enthusiasts, some experienced and some novices, have paddled from Albany to New York City to celebrate the 156 mile long Hudson River Greenway Water Trail (HRGWT). Past bucolic scenes reminiscent of the Hudson River School of painters or under the shadow of riverside cities, the paddlers encounter the many sides of a river that is steeped in history and renewal at the same time.
Scott Keller, coordinator of HRGWT, will share highlights from this year's trip in a presentation on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at 7pm at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing, in Kingston. Along the way, the paddlers stop at some of the seventy-four designated sites that make up the HRG Water Trail, a system of marked access points that highlight attractions such as wildlife, historic and downtown areas.
The Great Hudson River Paddle is a program of the Hudson River Valley Greenway in conjunction with the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, whose mission is to recognize, preserve, protect and interpret the nationally significant cultural and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley for the benefit of the Nation.
The HR Maritime Museum Lectures are on the second Tuesday of each month, at 7pm at the Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing in Kingston's downtown district. $5 nonmembers, members free. The HRMM is the only museum in New York State exclusively preserving the maritime history of the Hudson River, its tributaries, and the industries dependent on the river.
