Putnam Valley Organizations Continue Record Breaking Pace for September with Time Out For Town Day
by Edward Paul Greiff

Making friends at Town Day.
After a record-breaking five hour Putnam Valley Town Board meeting held on August 15, 2007 the Town's organizations seem energized to continue on at a record-breaking pace. The only respite seems to be Labor Day September 3.

Starting Tuesday, September 4th the Putnam Valley Town Board will hold their work session at Town Hall commencing at 6pm. That same evening starting at 7pm will be the Putnam Valley Arts meeting at the YMCA Camp Combe. On Wednesday, September 5 Alex Kaspar will be conducting the first Grange meeting at the Grange Hall Building starting at 7pm and everyone is invited.

Thursday, September 6 is the first public meeting on the Comprehensive Master Plan Zoning Code changes. It is scheduled for 6pm at Town Hall. The committee announced that copies of the document are available at Town Hall, the Library and on the Town's website.

The upcoming Town Budget deliberations also contribute their share of meetings when on Saturday, September 8th the final District Budget meetings will take place at Town Hall. They will be starting at 9am.

After all those meetings, the Town will need a break and Town Day will provide it. Starting at 11am on September 15 with a parade and floats, this year's festivities promise to be bigger and better then ever before.

The parade will wind its way down to Oregon Corners and end up at the church at the corner of Morrissey Drive. This should end about 12:30. Various awards for different floats will be given out at the Town Day Celebration which starts at 2pm in the Leonard Wagner Memorial Town Park. Food, fun, games, and entertainment will be the order of the day and that will be topped off once again by the incredible fire works display of "July-4th-Forever," starting about 8:30pm.

The Town Day committee is working in overdrive and although everything is under control, Ed Hertzel would like to remind everyone that they are still going to need help on the day of the event and if you are going anyway, why not volunteer for an hour or so to help out. Just stop at the information booth when you arrive and let them know you would like to help out.

Ann Spoonhour would like to remind everyone that they are still looking for Art and Photography submissions for display on Town Day and for people who would like to enter into the Town Day "Pie and Cookie Bake Off" in either the 14 years of age and under category or the 15 and older category.

After the break, on Tuesday, September 18 the Democratic Primary for Town Supervisor will take place between the incumbent candidate, Town Supervisor Sam Davis, and challenger, Councilwoman Wendy Whetsel.

The almost two-hundred page Comprehensive Master Plan document is to be reviewed at a public meeting to be held at the High School Performing Arts Center on Thursday, September 20 at 6pm. Copies of this document are available at Town hall, the Library, and on the Town's website.

Finishing out the month of September will be the last (for the season) Putnam Valley Residents Coalition Farmers Market on September 26 at Tompkins Corners. The market opens at noon.

On Saturday, September 29 the Putnam Valley Sunset Series will host a tag sale during the day and an "Open Mic Night" in the evening. And last, but not least, on Sunday, September 30 is the Putnam Valley Library's seventieth anniversary celebration. Kathleen McLaughlin said they would be announcing the anniversary celebration plans very shortly.
