Montgomery Seeks to Continue Community Service
"To ensure that your interests are represented on the Philipstown Town Board, I need your vote on September 18th. My name is Nancy Montgomery and I am the endorsed candidate for the democratic nomination for councilwoman.
"My service to Philipstown has included: The Philipstown Recreation Commission, Board Member; Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Volunteer EMT and Board Member and Philipstown Performing Arts Development Corporation, Board Member.
"There is a critical need in our community for enhanced emergency response networks, especially for our seniors. I will ensure that our residents have effective first response and preparedness plans for any situation. I will build on county, state and federal relationships and my knowledge of this issue that I have acquired as a volunteer EMT to guarantee that these services are a priority.
"We have opportunities for continued growth in Arts and Recreation. My background and experience in these areas leads me to believe that Philipstown's Arts and Recreation programs improve the quality of life for everyone. These programs provide opportunities for the economic growth that fit into the fabric of our community. I will work to enhance the Arts and Recreation in our community.
"My willingness and commitment to serve the community is long-standing and has its roots in a value system instilled by my parents. They chose Philipstown as the place to raise their family, and they gave back generously to this place that I'm proud to call home.
"My work for Philipstown's future will continue. The role of the Town Board in adopting land use ordinances is critical to our community's future and preservation. With the assistance of Advisory Boards, the Planning Board and the Zoning Board, we need to continue to guide the future growth of Philipstown.
"It's going to take some hard work to fill the shoes of our dedicated councilmen, David Brower and Al Hosmer. Their years of perseverance set a healthy foundation to protect this community. During their terms, our Town Board has adopted: The Comprehensive Plan, Route 9 Corridor Management Plan, Guidelines for Route 9 Commercial Properties and closed our obsolete landfill. They have established: The Wetlands Law, Steep Slopes Law, Cell Tower Law and Blasting Law. They have revised the Soil Mining Laws and are currently re-writing the entire Zoning Code in the spirit of our Comprehensive Plan.
"My goal is to put our established laws and guidelines to work. Through careful consideration of our natural beauty and support of our established businesses, we can continue to build an economically-sustainable, environmentally-proactive community.
"Our government works best for all of us when citizens participate in innovative problem-solving to balance what exists with the challenges of the future.
"I look for your vote on September 18th. Vote for the candidate who has a proven ability to work in cooperation with all residents in Philipstown."
