Butterfield Library - M.I.A. To the Editor:
Missing In Action. This is how I will have to conclude is Butterfield Library's refusal to meet with Philipstown Town Board or the taxpayers that have attended recent monthly town board meetings and signed petitions asking the Library to explain the need for a 120% annual increase? Up to now the Library has refused despite repeated requests from the Town Board to explain their needs. My personal dealings with the present Town Board has always found them to be very professional and always willing to listen. They have been placed in a very bad position and I can't help but believe that maybe all these legal proceedings and costs could have possibly been avoided had the library felt a sense of community obligation and explained why they are in need of such increases?
I do not believe that anyone should be forced to pay money for something they know nothing about, I urge the Butterfield Library to reconsider and be willing to meet with the Town Board and Philipstown taxpayers.
P.S. I regretted hearing that two current long community serving town board members (Al Hosmer and David Brower) have decided to retire, I. think of all their accomplishments and personal sacrifices over the years and think that most people of the town would thank them for their unselfish serving of the town these many years and despite any possible differences in opinion honor their service,
Michael Leonard
