Recommends Registered Dems Vote for Lilburne and Montgomery To The Editor:
As a Democratic Committeewoman it is my responsibility to help choose candidates to run in Town elections. At the present time we anticipate two vacancies on the Town Board. Earlier this year we interviewed four people who wished to be chosen to run for those seats. They were Nat Prentice, Michael Gibbons, Nancy Montgomery, and Cathy Lilburne.
Mr. Gibbons displayed great enthusiasm. Mr. Prentice showed his expertise in money management. We listened with interest to both these gentlemen, but after we had interviewed Nancy and Cathy, it was clear to most of us that they would be our choices. I have worked in political campaigns for about 50 years. I started with Stevenson. On occasion I have supported candidates who did not appear in any way exceptionally good. I supported them because their opposition was so much worse. It was therefore very rewarding to me to be able to vote for Nancy and Cathy.
Both women are clearly bright and knowledgeable. Both women came across as reasonable, a quality I think is essential for elected officials. Both women have had considerable involvement in the Philipstown community. Before the interview I asked people I know in the community and perceive as good judges, what they thought of the candidates. I heard only good things about Nancy and Cathy.
I strongly recommend that registered Democrats in Philipstown make it their business to vote for Nancy Montgomery and Cathy Lilburne in the upcoming primary, and then hopefully in the November '07 election.
