Artist, Musicians, Actors to Perform at Open Mouth Friday

Artist Harvey Ehrlich, three guitarists, and four actors will be among the performers at Arts on the Lakes' Open Mouth this Friday, September 7, on Route 52 in Lake Carmel at 8pm.

Continuing its three-month tradition of presenting short performances, Director James Shearwood has announced that, in addition to several musical acts, this Open Mouth will include the premiere of Kentresident Harvey Ehrlich's children's story Millie and Billy. Ehrlich, who is an internationally known artist-illustrator, will present in-person his story of two orphans separated when young who rediscover each other later.

Two who have previously entertained audiences at Open Mouth, Chris Cassone (of the Earls) and Jeff Green (of PlanPutnam), will be joined by Jim Nowak in separate performances that cover love, loss and environmental issues.

At the suggestion of Patterson playwright Tony Howarth, a new version of a scene from Julius Caesar is being prepared by Howarth, Shearwood and violist Midhat Serbagi. It is, according to Shearwood, the perfect scene for the oncoming political season.

Serbagi, who performed at Open Mouth last month with composer David Amram, is also enlarging a version of Gershwin's Summertime that premiered two weeks ago (8/ 26) at the Reed Memorial Library in Carmel.

Open Mouth takes place at the Art Center in the Lake Carmel Cultural Center, 640 Route 52. It is the former firehouse, just south of Route 311 on Lake Carmel.

Following the performance, audiences usually stay for a short while along the lake to talk and plan for the next time.

Admission to Open Mouth is $6 ($5 for AotL members). Reservations can be made by emailing rsvp@artsonthelake.org or leaving a message at (845) 225- 3856.
