Local Artist Robert Cepale Featured at West Point Class of 1929 Gallery

West Point's Class of 1929 Gallery will feature an exhibit by Windham artist Robert Cepale. The exhibit opens with an artist reception Sunday afternoon, September 16 from 2 to 4pm, and runs until October 21. Located on Eisenhower Hall's 5th floor, the West Point Class of 1929 Gallery is open weekdays, from 9am to 4pm and prior to all Eisenhower Hall Theatre performances.

Americana artist and local legend Robert Cepale has been painting pieces that express his deep feelings for New England life during the early 1900's. Robert reveres the simple unity of this horse and buggy driven society. "Times were hard, but they were real." Growing up in a small Brooklyn community, Robert remembers a closeness in family and friends that today's society has forgotten. He attended Pratt Institute, Huntington Art League and the Rockville Center Art Club, fulfilling his passion to paint. As it turned out, he had to take the practical route and become a professional fireman in order to provide for his family. In the early eighties, after his children had grown, Robert and his wife, Christine, moved to Windham. Both of these romantics immediately fell for the country and began thinking about times past. Robert's fascination with history and farm life led to a series of paintings reflecting the history of the area. He collected every local art and history book he could get his hands on. He sought to bring alive the emotions and feelings of this simple country life with accurate documentation. The resulting paintings embrace the spirit of unity that people had at that time.
