Removal of Election Signs is Deceitful and Illegal To The Editor:
As an individual relatively new to the election process, it is quite disheartening to play witness to the dishonesty and deceitful behavior of some adults who want to interfere with the political process. Does an election force individuals to discard their values, or do certain individuals just display the depth of their lack of values when it involves winning?
Michael Gibbons had his signs stolen from private property. He is endorsed and supported by residents who encouraged him to place his signs on their private property. Several of the signs were removed from their locations. There have been calls from eyewitnesses who were on their way to the Garrison Art Show on Sunday August 18 and while driving on Travis Corners Road in Garrison, saw the signs being removed by an "older woman driving a rather small black or dark blue car..." The woman placed the signs in the trunk of her car. This incident was reported to the sheriff's office.
The removal of these signs not only constitutes blatant theft but also trespassing. In addition to having his signs illegally removed, Mr. Gibbons was accused of "polluting" the environment - I guess only his signs pollute and those of his opponents do not!
Michael is supporting his campaign through private contributions. The signs were expensive to produce and replace. The Democratic Party has stressed integrity, honesty, genuineness and respect. The illegal act of removing these signs surely does not promote these attributes. Hopefully, Michael's values and integrity will be supported at the polls on September 18.
