Brewster Rotary Sponsors Fall Classic Half-Marathon and 5K Run/Walk
Applications are now available for the 14th Annual Putnam County Fall Classic Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk, planned for Sunday, September 30 starting at 10am at the Brewster Village Train Station in Brewster.
The 13.1 mile course for the Half Marathon begins at the historic Brewster Train Station on Main St. in the Village of Brewster and runs through the Village of Brewster, the Towns of Southeast and Carmel. On the route runners will find beautiful scenery surrounding the local reservoir communities. The course is challenging, with rolling hills. Over 250 runners have participated in the race in past years. Many runners consider the Putnam County Fall Classic a great warm-up race for the NYC Marathon.
The 5K Race/Walk will also start at the Brewster Village Train Station and follow a shorter route through the community. For those who haven't had time to train, the non-competitive 5K Walk is a rewarding family event and appropriate for all age groups.
Leo Cunningham, Chair of this year's Brewster Rotary Race Committee, urges both experienced and non-competitive runners and walkers to lace up your running shoes and join them on September 30. All race proceeds are donated to local charities and civic organizations. Funds raised in the past have supported Putnam CAP, the Southeast Museum, the Brewster Library, Green Chimneys, the Brewster Rotary College Scholarship Fund and other local and international organizations.
Awards are provided 2 deep for men and women in both the Half-Marathon and 5K races in the following categories: Under 20, 20-29,30-39,40-49,50- 59,60-69& 70 & over. Post race refreshments are offered to all participants. The fee for participation is $16 for adults/$13 for runners 19 & under before Sept. 14 if you register prior to September 14. After Sept. 14 & on race day the cost is: Adults. $20; under 1$: $15.
Following the race, runners and their families are invited to enjoy the Brewster Village Annual Street Fair, which will take place along Brewster's Main Street from 10-4 p.m.
