Herbert L. Grimm
Herbert L. Grimm, age 82, of Philipstown, died on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, surrounded by his family, after a long illness.
Born on January 3, 1925 in Schopfloch, Germany, he was the son of Ernest and Emma Grimm.
He came to the United States in 1935 and was a graduate of Arlington HS. He served in the US Army in the South Pacific, principally at New Guinea. After an honorable discharge he entered St. Lawrence University at Canton, NY, where he earned a degree in Science and Psychology. He went to California to earn a Masters degree in Experimental Psychology at the University of So. California. There he met Helen Leinweber, and they were married on April 29, 1949. In 1953 he returned to Dutchess County where they built their home at Hillside Lake. He was employed as a Psychiatric Social Worker at Hudson River Psychiatric Center for 37 years. Following his retirement in 1987, he continued to build houses as a recreation. He also traveled extensively throughout the world.
A 40-year resident of Philipstown, Mr. Grimm was active in Germania, the Putnam Historical Society, Open Space Institute, and the Sierra Club.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two children, Miranda (Robert) Grimm-Juby of Cold Spring and Peter (Eva) Grimm of Kingston, four grandchildren, Brandon and Adrienne Juby of Cold Spring, Morgan and Rachel Grimm, both of Kingston, and Cara M. Grimm of New Paltz. His younger sister, Normandy (Conrad) Gack survives in New Hope, PA.
Services are private, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Clinton Funeral Home, Cor Parrott & Pine Sts, Cold Spring. Donations may be made in Mr. Grimm's name to the American Cancer Society, Putnam County Unit, 220 Route 6, Mahopac, NY 10541.
