Tamagna Announces Candidacy for Supervisor
Pledges to put "Philipstown First"

"I thought long and hard about our town's challenges and needs before deciding to enter the race for Supervisor.

"Why run for Supervisor? Over the past decade our Town has experienced great change. We have "grown up". As our needs have changed, we have had to become more sophisticated as a town.

"Philipstown deserves an open, transparent Town Board that will dedicate itself to keeping up with the new challenges. I commit to provide the experience and vision needed to effectively lead our town and make it accessible and responsive.

"Philipstown's residents and environment must be protected from over-development. To preserve our character we must emphasize sustainable growth and planned development. We must also hold the line on taxes and find alternative funding solutions for quality-of-life programs such as a senior facility.

"How can we create a more prosperous Town and maintain our quality of life? Managing the Town like a business, eliminating waste, would help considerably. We must streamline internal systems, reorganize departments like the Assessor's and create a dedicated office for Town Engineering, Planning & Code Enforcement. Philipstown would also benefit by fostering stronger relationships among our Villages, schools, nonprofits, libraries and all levels of government. Centralization of purchasing across communities would help to reduce costs and minimize duplication of services.

"Is Legislator to Supervisor considered a step down? Absolutely not. Over the past 13 years as legislator, I have developed a network of people, programs and processes, which will be useful to the Town. I have also seen many positive changes in other towns that could work here. Above all, Philipstown is my home and needs the best possible leadership as it faces future challenges.

"Would I change any of my past approaches? I have never backed away from principled stands, but I was at times unable to objectively see other viewpoints. I have learned that my job is to serve as a bridge between differing views and work to find common solutions. Philipstown needs a leader who will listen, learn and make the best decisions for our community as a whole.

"What about successes? I am proud of my record, but there is much more to do. I will continue to control spending, fight for road improvements, safeguard our heritage and celebrate our culture. To date, I have secured over $500,000 in partnership programs that have helped further these missions.

"Most importantly, I have managed to assist individuals, one at a time, whenever needed. If elected Supervisor, I will continue to do so, while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the dignity of each person. My door will always be open.

"What about our future? Philipstown is a great place. I plan to lead the fight to keep it that way by nurturing many of the community recommendations of Philipstown 20/20, improving the planning process through better code enforcement and sustainable best practices and examining the overall assets of the Town to consolidate and integrate its facilities.

"I am proud of our dynamic team committed to putting Philipstown First. Roger Chirico, Tina Merando, Steve Tomann, Barbara Scuccimarra, Cary Downey and I are capable and willing to make the necessary changes to lead Philipstown into the future.

"We need strong leadership and clear vision to control development, hold the line on taxes and improve our quality of life. If you put your confidence in me, I will make the difference. I know that working together, Philipstown's best time is yet to come."
