Putnam's 2nd Annual Farm & Harvest Tour Planned for October 6
Putnam County Soil & Water Conservation District has partnered with the Putnam County agriculture and Farmland Protection Board, Putnam Visitors Bureau, and Hudson Highlands Land Trust for the Putnam County's 2nd Annual Farm & harvest Tour.
On October 6, 2007 from 10am to 5 pm, pack a picnic lunch or purchase one of our gourmet box lunches and spend the day in the countryside visiting some of Putnam County's unique farms.
The event is a self guided driving tour with bus service for anyone coming into the Cold Spring Metro North Station. The tour will begin at the Cold Spring Farmers' Market and then visit four local farms; Femre Farm, Garrison Farm, Saunder's Farm, and Carlson's Greenhouses.
There will be talks regarding the benefits and struggles of farming today, there will also be several demonstrations on horse shoeing, pony driving, and bulb forcing. You can also take a pumpkin home just in time for Halloween,
Putnam County is one of the best kept secrets in the Hudson Valley. Pack a picnic lunch or purchase one of our gourmet box lunches and bring them to one of the farms and enjoy the beautiful views of the country side. Purchase some fresh farm products at the Cold Spring Farmers' Market and make a harvest dinner or enjoy dinner at one of the fabulous restaurants in the area.
