Putnam Valley Family Walks for Cancer Awareness

Pictured at a recent Support Connection event (left to right) are sisters Irene Stillman, Putnam Valley; Andrea Karl, Putnam Valley; and Gail Tartaglia, Port Chester; all members of the Support-A-Walk team "Miles and Smiles for Andrea."
Every year since 1993, Andrea Karl of Putnam Valley has gathered her family to participate in Support Connection's Annual Support-A-Walk for breast and ovarian cancer. The name of their team is "Miles and Smiles for Andrea," named in honor of Andrea who is a breast cancer survivor. She is also a peer counselor at Support Connection where she provides information and support to other women facing cancer.

This year's Support-A-Walk will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2007. (rain or shine) at FDR Park, Route 202, Yorktown Heights. The Walk is held to increase awareness of breast and ovarian cancer, and to raise funds for Support Connection's free services. Founded in 1996, Support Connection's mission is to provide emotional, social and educational support services to women, their families and friends affected by breast and ovarian cancer.

All are welcome to participate in the Support-A-Walk. Families, friends, co-workers and teams of walkers are invited to walk together. Individuals are also welcome to participate. There is no fee to register or attend, but pre-registration is encouraged. For more information about the Support-AWalk or Support Connection's free and confidential breast and ovarian cancer support services, please call 914-962-6402 or visit www.supportconnection.org.
