Nat Prentice is a Candidate for Town Council
Nat Prentice of Garrison has announced that he is an independent candidate for election to the Philipstown Town Board this November. The following is his candidate statement.
"I am on the November 6 ballot for one of the two open seats on the Philipstown Town Council. I am running as an independent candidate, unaffiliated with a political party, because I believe that "It's the Person, not the Party."
"There are three reasons why I am the person to win your vote.
"First, I am a "numbers guy" and have the analytical training and years of experience in finance to help craft a town budget in these tougher economic times.
"Second, I know our Town's issues; in 2001, the Town Council appointed me to the Special Board that wrote our Comprehensive Plan. I'm currently serving on the Plan's Implementation Committee under Councilman Richard Shea.
"Third, I'll be working for you and you alone. At the same time, I have a positive, patient, and consensus-building style and can work with the other Council members while constructively challenging the status quo.
"My commitment to Philipstown is clear. I grew up here in Garrison and my family lived in Garrison and Cold Spring with a long tradition of helping the Town. I serve as the Treasurer of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, which brings in tourist dollars and provides employment opportunities for our residents. I am an advocate for our businesses as a volunteer for the Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce and the Western Putnam Economic Development Committee. I have been a coach in the Philipstown Recreation Department's lacrosse program and a performer in many Philipstown Depot Theater productions. I've helped Councilwoman Betty Budney rake leaves in the Cedar Street Cemetery and cleared brush in the Garrison School Forest. And, I help keep Philipstown looking beautiful as a participant in Putnam County's "Adopt A Highway" by picking up the trash on a stretch of Route 9D nearby to the Village of Cold Spring. The beauty of our town constantly reminds me of why it is worth "pitching in" for.

"Please vote for me on November 6, and remember, "It's
the Person, Not the Party."
