Speeding Violation Leads to Driving While Intoxicated Charge

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department reports the arrest of a 53-year-old Town of Putnam Valley man after he was stopped for speeding on Sprout Brook Rd. in the Town of Philipstown.

According to the report, on September 15, 2007 at about 1am Deputy Alexander Ruhe was on routine patrol in the Town of Philipstown when he observed a vehicle traveling the roadway at an excessive rate of speed. The deputy conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and during the subsequent interview with the operator detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the subject's breath.

Deputy Ruhe placed the driver, Raymond T. Price of Putnam Valley under arrest and charged him with misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated after he was unable to successfully complete several field sobriety examinations. In addition, the defendant was charged with Speeding and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. The defendant was transported to the Sheriff's Department headquarters in Carmel for processing and released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance on October 3, 2007 in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.

If convicted of the Driving While Intoxicated charge the defendant could face a maximum fine of up to $1,000 and or no more than 1 year in jail. The defendants also faces suspension or revocation of his license if the court so orders.
