Hudson Valley Make-A-Wish Foundation Hosts 'Walk For Wishes' Benefit to Help Area Children

The Make-A-Wish Foundation ® of the Hudson Valley is seeking both walkers and sponsors to participate in its second annual 'Walk For Wishes.' The walk-a-thon will be held on Sunday, October 14 at Playland in Rye, NY. There are many opportunities for individuals, schools, corporations and community groups to help raise money to help grant the wishes of children with lifethreatening medical conditions.

WHUD radio personalities Mike & Kacey, and Tom Furci will serve as honorary co-chairs of the event. The three have long played a vital role in helping the chapter with fundraising efforts. In addition, they've regularly attended numerous Foundation events, ceremonies and dedications and have continued to be strong supporters of the Foundation's mission.

"Walk For Wishes is a unique opportunity to truly engage the entire community offering a hands-on experience to help make wishes come true," said Thomas J. Conklin, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley. "We are currently working on over 130 wishes and look forward to welcoming everyone from individuals to companies and student and organizations to a fun-filled day to help raise funds and awareness of our ongoing mission to spread hope, strength and joy."

The non-competitive 2.5 mile walk is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. Walkers can register in person on the day of the event from 8:30am to 10am or online at www.hudson.wish.org. The website allows walkers to create a web page for themselves or their team to help collect pledges of support. For additional information, please call Lotte Bidstrup at (914) 478- 9474.

Awards will be presented for the following achievements:

* Most funds raised by an individual * Most funds raised by an elementary or middle school team * Most funds raised by a high school team * Most funds raised by a non-school team

In addition, all walkers who raise at least $25 will receive a Make-A-Wish t-shirt; for donations totaling $125 - $249, a Make-A-Wish hooded sweatshirt; and for donations over $250, a Make-A-Wish wind jacket.

Following the walk, activities will be provided by the New York Rangers Road Tour and Mad Science of Westchester. In addition, the prestigious Lagond Music School in Elmsford will headline the morning's musical entertainment. Other post-walk activities will include; face painting, balloon animals and visits from kids' favorite characters. Food and beverages will also be provided.

Last year, Walk For Wishes attracted over 200 people and raised more than $73,000.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley grants wises of children with lifethreatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since its inception in 1986, the Hudson Valley chapter has granted wishes to over 1,500 children in Delaware, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties.
