Central Hudson Alerts Customers of Aggressive Telemarketing Activities

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. is alerting customers of aggressive telemarketing activities for energy supply within the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Central Hudson has received complaints from some customers being contacted by aggressive telemarketers of natural gas and electricity supply contracts, indicating they are associated with Central Hudson. Central Hudson does not solicit its customers for electricity or natural gas, nor does it provide customer information for sales or marketing purposes. Customers are advised to be extremely cautious in providing personal information to anyone who contacts them regarding their gas or electric service, and should understand all of the terms and conditions of any offers before providing account numbers or other requested information over the phone.

Protection from "slamming" (or enrollment in contracts without the consent of the customer) is afforded to residents and businesses in New York through the Public Service Commission. Also, customers who have registered with the national Do Not Call registry should be aware that the service must be renewed every five years at www.DoNotCall.gov.

Through the Customer Choice program, Central Hudson customers have the option to purchase their natural gas and electricity from independent marketers, or they may continue to receive their energy supply from Central Hudson. Information on the Customer Choice program and a list of approved suppliers of electricity and natural gas is provided at www.CentralHudson.com (under "Energy Choice"), and at the New York State Public Service Commission web sites at www.dps.state.ny.us and www.AskPSC.com.
