Mahopac Drug Trafficking Investigation Lead to Four Arrests by Sheriff's Deputies
Four individuals suspected to be involved in the street-level sales of drugs in the Mahopac area of the Town of Camel have been arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. The arrests were a result of an extensive three-month investigation.
Members of the Sheriff's Narcotics Enforcement Unit investigated the illegal distribution of prescription drugs occurring in the parking lot of a shopping plaza along Route 6 in Mahopac. During the investigation, 21 year-old Antonio Ibarra, Jr., of Tarrytown, New York, acting in concert with three others, allegedly sold large quantities of assorted prescription drugs to an undercover deputy sheriff on a number of occasions. Mr. Ibarra is accused of selling drugs consisting of various forms of oral liquid medicines and injectable medications. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of 39 pills of the prescription drug, "Klonopin", a schedule IV controlled substance.
Mr. Ibarra was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility where he was released after posting a $20,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in Carmel Justice Court on September 24, 2007.
Also arrested was an accomplice of Mr. Ibarra's, 25-yearold Anne. P. Sinnott of Yorktown Heights, NY. Ms. Sinnott was taken into custody by sheriffs narcotics investigators after she had reportedly sold various types of controlled substances to an undercover deputy sheriff on five separate occasions.
Ms. Sinnott was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Thomas Jacobellis and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility where she is currently being held on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond. She was due to return to the Carmel Justice Court on September 25, 2007.
Additionally, two Jefferson Valley residents were taken into custody on drug-related charges. Mr. Shaborn L. Dickerson, 27 years old and a 17 year-old were arrested after Mr. Dickerson allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover deputy sheriff. The 17-year-old allegedly drove Mr. Dickerson to the location of the drug deal. That individual was found to be in possession of substances believed to be cocaine and marijuana.
Mr. Dickerson was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility. He is currently being held on $100,000 cash bail or $100,000 secured bond. Mr. Dickerson was scheduled to appear in court on September 24, 2007. The 17 year-old was released without bail pending a September 25 court date.
Further investigation revealed that the prescription drugs being sold on the streets of Putnam County were diverted from a medical supply source in Westchester County. Investigator Thomas D'Amicantonio from the Metropolitan Regional Office of the New York State Department of Health is assisting narcotics enforcement officers in the investigation. The investigation is continuing and more arrests may be forthcoming.
Sheriff Smith praised the efforts of the Narcotics Enforcement Unit and the cooperation of the New York State Department of Health. I urge anyone having illegal drug information to call the Sheriff's Drug Hotline at (845) 225-DRUG. All calls are kept confidential," said Sheriff Smith.
