Putnam Valley's Adult/ Family Sand Volleyball Program A Success

Putnam Valley's Town Park was really filled with excitement Saturday night, with the success of the Adult/Family Sand Volleyball program and this season's finale. Visualize a meadow of families, scurrying around, everyone every busy having fun. In the midst of this enjoyment, you could see volleyballs, gracing the sky, during a recreational game of coed sand volleyball and children merrily playing.

From the onset, this program has grown in popularity. What better way to spend a family evening, where everyone can come together and just plain have fun? Henry Lopez and Margaret DiRubba approached the Recreation Department three years ago with this concept. They have watched this program nurture. What started out as a number of friends, that enjoyed volleyball, coming together with their families, to enjoy and evening out, has now expanded and developed into families meeting families.

Curiosity draws people in. You cannot help but see this group's enthusiasm and want to know more. One person, new to Putnam Valley, drove through the park and stopped to see what was going on. Another person on the court said. "Are you in?" He looked around then said "Sure!" while quickly taking off his sneakers to join the game. He and his wife have been participating ever since. "That is what this program was designed for" says Henry Lopez, coordinator. "It is a way for families to see the true camaraderie of our friendly town" "It is a way for everyone to get to know their neighbor. "

This free multi generational program is held at the Leonard Wagner Memorial Town Park on Thursday evenings during the summer. Because of its popularity it has continued thru the fall on weekends. Although this group, numbering 65 people, celebrated its third year season's finale this past weekend, rumor has it, that you may see a few more to come this fall. For additional information about this great program please call the Recreation Office 526- 3292 or visit the websites www.PVPR.com or www.PVSunset.com.
