Putnam Valley Central School District Welcomes New Athletic Coordinator

| Brian Hogaboom, the new Athletic Coordinator for the Putnam Valley Central School District (PVCSD), stepped in over the summer to take over where Interim Athletic Director Pete Kuczma had left off. Kuczma- a veteran administrator who came out of retirement to shepherd PV and has moved on to more interim AD work in Croton-on-Hudson- took PV's fledgling athletic program and molded it into a well-organized, focused, and enthusiastic organization of coaches, players, and parents. Mr. Hogaboom's charge will be to maintain that level of excellence while helping the program to continue its growth and development.
A native of Sayreville, NJ, Mr. Hogaboom was exposed to sports early in life through his grandfather and uncle, who worked selling tickets at local high school sporting events. Brian tagged along and became hooked on athletics. Another family connection, twin uncles who played on a travel soccer team, led him to his first active participation in team sports. He was a high school 3-sport athlete (soccer, track, and basketball) who dreamed of going to West Point. He attended Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and did graduate studies at Old Dominion University, in Norfolk, VA. Another uncle who was the NCAA Compliance Officer at West Point helped Brian realize his Army aspirations when he told Brian about a media relations internship at the USMA. This internship led to a full-time staff position that included design and maintenance of the first Army Athletics website.
In 2001 Brian became a teacher in the NY City Teaching Fellows program. Working at Roberto Clemente Middle School in the Bronx- the homeland of the NY Yankees- Brian kept his status as a Mets fan under wraps. Before coming to PVHS, Brian worked at Arlington Middle School in Dutchess County for 2 years as a PE teacher and 3 years as the Physical Education and Athletic Coordinator.
He feels lucky to be following in Pete Kuczma's footsteps, and to have a young and enthusiastic teaching and coaching staff to work with. Hogaboom said that he has no plans to make big changes immediately. "Pete left everything in excellent shape and I need to take some time to take everything in. My current longterm goal is simply to build upon the athletic successes we already have." One immediate addition that Hogaboom envisions is the formation of a Student Athletic Council that will serve in an advisory capacity to the Athletic Office. Asked for words of encouragement for PV's young athletes, Mr. Hogaboom replied, "Play hard, play fair, play with pride."
