Philipstown Junior Pee Wee Hawks Defeat Beacon
Coming off a tough loss to Newburgh last weekend the Philipstown Junior Pee Wee Hawks bounced back this week to defeat Beacon decisively 25- 6 at Mayor's Park.
The Hawks' first drive began on their own 45-yard-line and ended ten plays later with a quarterback sneak by Tyler Giachinta for the final yard. The pivotal drive featured tough short yardage runs from fullback Jordan Panthen and halfback Will Moss and two longer runs totaling 37 yards by halfbacks Ryan McCollum and Alec Vasi. On the very next kickoff Alec Vasi recovered a fumble on the Beacon 43-yardline and six plays later the Hawks had their second touchdown of the day, scored by Ryan McCollum, who after a prior run of 25 yards on the drive, scored from 6 yards out. Beacon scored next on a 60-yard run on 1st down for its only touchdown of the day, after which its offense was stifled by the Hawks for the rest of the game.
The Hawks scored next on a 13 yard run by fullback Jordan Panthen who tallied 27 tough yards on the drive and also scored the extra point. The Hawks'fourth touchdown proved to be the toughest. Following runs for no gain on 1st and 2nd down a 28- yard doublereverse to Ryan McCollum to the 11-yard line was followed by two tough runs by Jordan Panthen for his second score of the day. The backs were led by a tough and penalty free offensive line, which opened gaping running lanes and pushed the Beacon team off the ball all day.
The Hawks defense played hard-hitting football from the opening whistle and notable solo and combined tackles on both pivotal 3rd and 4th downs and on the kick-off team were registered by Nick Allen, Will Moss, Alec Vasi, Blake Cohen, Matt Koval, Thomas D'Eustachio, Sachin Sanmugaraja, Connor Allen, Jordan Panthen and Matt Balducci. The Hawks are now 1-2, and, more importantly, 1- 0 in their division. The Junior Pee Wee Hawk's next game is vs. New Paltz at Mayor's Park on Sunday, September 30 at 1:30. Please come out and support the team. Go Hawks!!
