Philipstown Flag Hawks Storm to First Victory

The Philipstown flag Hawks traveled to Hudson Valley Sunday September 23 for their third game of the season against Highland. Although their record showed 0-2, they have been improving in all areas week by week. The hard work showed as a great game was played by all.

Highland got the ball first and Philipstown came out fired up on defense determined to not allow Highland to move the ball. Philipstown set the tone early and often making Highland turn the ball over after four downs. The defense was lead by Michael Champlin who recorded 11 tackles - all in the backfield. When Highland tried to compensate, the rest of the defense stepped up. Kevin Barry and VJ Fina anchored the line at defensive tackle, not allowing Highland to run the ball. Sam Giachinta and Michael Chefalo teamed with Champlin to stuff the middle and constantly get to the quarterback. Nate Allen and Joey DiGregorio contained the outside at defensive end pushing all the runs back to the middle.

On offense Philipstown wasted no time making a statement. Quarterback Tyler Outhouse ran the offense to perfection capped by a long touchdown run by Brandon Twoguns. When Wilson Thorpe scored the extra point Philipstown was quickly up 7-0. The offense line of Philipstown was giving up a lot of size to Highland - but obviously not a lot of heart. The offensive line has been working on their blocking for weeks and they showed it off. Matthew Champlin, Anthony Lombardo and Nicholas Telesco fired off the ball to push the defenders back. This allowed the Philipstown backs plenty of room to run. After another touchdown by Twoguns, Nick DiPalo followed with a touchdown run of his own. Luke Junjulas was the next to join the party with a long touchdown run from scrimmage. Thomas Percacciolo showed off some moves scoring the extra point. Not to be outdone Outhouse scored on a scramble off a broken play and then converted the extra point on quarterback keeper.

Philipstown hosts Beacon at 11am on Sunday September 30 at Mayors Park. Come support the Hawks!
