Cary Downey Runs for Town Council

Cary Downey has announced his candidacy for Philipstown Town Board with the following release:

"I have decided to run for Town Council. I have been a lifelong resident of Philipstown and have operated the family business in Western Putnam (Downey Oil Company) for the past 18 years.

"I believe that I am qualified to represent you in Town Hall because of my years of experience in budgeting while running our oil company. I employ a staff of 15 workers, operate of fleet of 20 vehicles on the roads of Philipstown and have considerable construction experience in both Cold Spring and Garrison.

"I have knowledge in road construction and can assist Roger Chirico in those endeavors. I will work with the Supervisor to make the required capital improvements on the Town Hall and any other improvements needed on buildings owned by Philipstown.

"I am for holding the line on taxes, replacing consultants with salaried employees, and enforcing the zoning and building department laws as written.

"I believe we should have more communication between the town, village, and county governments, work with the schools to eliminate duplication of services, and use public/private partnerships to offset the high costs of our recreation department.

"We should be encouraging certain businesses to locate in the town in order to increase our tax base and should work with the County IDA to make bonds available to research companies to locate in some of our vacant buildings and building sites.

"I will work hard for the town and I ask for your vote for Town Council on November 6."
