Factual, Fictional and Fun Tales of Putnam Valley Presented by the Tompkins Corners Family Music Festival

On October 28, from 2-4pm Jonathan Kruk, well-known Hudson Valley storyteller and educator, will present Canopus, Sybil and Sunken Mines-Legends and Lore of Old Putnam Valley. He last appeared at the church in 1993. He studied educational theater in England before earning his Masters in education at New York University, and he has performed for most of the school districts and major historic sites in Metropolitan New York. He is Historic Hudson Valley's Legend of Sleepy Hollow storyteller. He has appeared on PBS, NY Crossroads, the Food, History, Outdoor and National Geographic Channels. The Sons of the American Revolution awarded Jonathan their bronze medal for citizenship in 1999.

Martin Brech, former Hudson Valley Coordinator of the New England Antiquities Research Association, will discuss the stone chambers in Putnam Valley. His book, Ancient Stone Chambers of Putnam County, New York, was published in 2002. He feels there is an urgent need to preserve the chambers that remain.

The audience will be encouraged to share stories of their childhood in Putnam Valley, and unusual tales or legends they have heard.

A favorite group of local musicians, The Peekskill Hollow String Band, will be there to round out the afternoon with their delightful music.

Admission is $12/ $10 seniors/children under 7 free. Refreshments available. Historic Tompkins Corners United Methodist Church, is located at 729 Peekskill Hollow Road, Putnam-Valley (I mile West of the Taconic Parkway). For more information, contact: 845- 528-5076
