Hudson Valley Hospital Staff Add Another $500,000 "Block" to New Campaign "Thermometer"
Employees at Hudson Valley Hospital Center take their high scores in employee satisfaction so seriously, they just raised nearly $600,000 for their new $100 million hospital project.
Joined by President John Federspiel, the Employee Campaign Committee added another $500,000 symbolic block to the hospital's Capital Campaign thermometer. In June the hospital kicked. off its capital campaign announcing it had raised $10.8 million towards its initial $12 million goal. Several, symbolic blocks were also added by lead campaign donors at the June ceremony.
This latest campaign block represents the employees of HVHC's gracious donations, to date totaling over $580,000. That total represents nearly 65% participation, and still growing, from its general employee population. Fifteen hospital departments are at 100% participation.
"This level of generosity is incredible and is yet another reason why we are so proud of our staff and their commitment to our patients and the many families we serve every day," said Federspiel. "Our staff gives of themselves every single day with open hearts and generosity that you just do not see elsewhere."
Federspiel said that Press Ganey, a national company that evaluates hospitals, found that 99 percent of the hospital's employees highly rated their work experience, Recently, Westchester Magazine rated the hospital as one of top ten "Best Places To Work in. Westchester County." HVI-IC has recently been the first in the region to achieve Magnet status. Magnet designation is only given to hospitals that undergo a rigorous, voluntary evaluation that requires executive leadership support. Magnet recognition is the highest national recognition a hospital can attain. Since the development of the Magnet Recognition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center 17 years ago, less than five percent of hospitals nationwide have been granted this distinction. "To say I'm proud is an understatement," said Federspiel, in response to earning the designation.
"We think that our achievements in patient and employee satisfaction naturally go hand in hand together," said Federspiel.
Over the summer months, the Employee Campaign, Committee met around the clock with their colleagues to present the case for supporting the campaign.
Lead donors, hospital trustees and employees have had the opportunity to participate in the Building On Excellence campaign over the past several months. Now the hospital will seek support from its medical staff and the general public, including businesses and foundations.
The project will include a four-story Patient Tower featuring all private rooms, an expanded Emergency Room that will nearly double current capacity, the creation of a new Comprehensive Cancer Care Center and two additional new state-of-the-art Operating Rooms. Along with these additions will also be an expanded Critical Care area with four new Progressive Care Unit rooms, an expanded Rehabilitation suite (physical, pulmonary and cardiac therapy) and for patient and employee convenience, a 400 space parking facility that will remain free.
