Flag Hawks Fall to Beacon

On Sunday September 30 the Philipstown Flag Hawks hosted Beacon at Mayor's Park. The Hawks were playing shorthanded and giving up a lot of size to Beacon, but used toughness and grit to make it a close game.

Philipstown stuck first as the offensive line of Nicholas Telesco, VJ Fina, Anthony Lombardo, Thomas Percacciolo, Kevin Barry and Joey DiGregorio played much bigger than their size holding off a huge Beacon defensive line. Quarterback Tyler Outhouse marched the offense up the field paced by two long runs from Luke Junjulas and one from Wilson Thorpe. Brandon Twoguns capped off the drive with a touchdown run giving Philipstown a 6-0 lead.

Beacon mounted their own drive right before the half tying the score at 6. Twoguns knocked down the attempted two-point conversion, leaving the teams tied at halftime.

Beacon quickly took the lead on the second play of the second half with a long touchdown run from their quarterback. They were able to convert the two-point conversion for a 14- 6 lead.

The Philipstown offense was unable to answer but the defense was up to the challenge. Defensive ends Nate Allen and Nicholas DiPalo were able to contain the Beacon offense on the outside. Philipstown was without defensive specialist Michael Champlin who was unable to play due to an illness, however "little" brother Matthew Champlin filled in at nose guard and showed he's been watching his brother as he caused all kinds of headaches for the Beacon offense. Champlin was aided on the inside offensive line by Michael Chefalo and Sam Giachinta who used their quickness to offset Beacon's size advantage.

Beacon tacked on a late touchdown on a broken play with Champlin and Junjulas getting pressure on the quarterback to make the final score 20-6. The Hawks play this Sunday in Beacon at 1pm against White Plains.
