Kids now Have Their own Library Catalog
Want to find the perfect book to get your son interested in reading? Looking for more dinosaur books? A comic book appropriate for your granddaughter? How about a book to help with that homework assignment on Abe Lincoln?
Area public libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System have a great new resource for kids and their parents to use to find great books, CDs, magazines, DVDs and other materials at their local library- the Kids' Catalog. You can get to the Kids' Catalog online at home, at school or at the library by going to your local library's website (http://midhudson.org/ libraries). Look for the "Library Catalog" link or the new green Kids' Catalog button.
The new Kids' Catalog helps kids find interesting and age appropriate books and other resources on such topics as animals, sports, crafts, dinosaurs, science experiments, music, nature and much more.
Within the Kids' Catalog you will find the all-new Kid Picks area. Books picked by kids and librarians highlight some of the best reading choices for various ages and genders: Books for Boys, Books for Girls, Funny Stuff, Scary Stuff, Stories from the Past, comic books, magazines, picture books and much, much more. Three area children will be featured in the Kid Picks section on a rotating basis, sharing the title of their favorite book and why they liked it. An online form is available for kids to indicate their favorite or they can ask their local librarian for a form.
The Kids' Catalog was designed by MHLS librarians and staff to help children and their parents find great reading materials in the 66 public libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System. The site is targeted for children from pre-school to approximately 10 years of age. Once you find something you want, it can be reserved online to be picked up at any of the 66 MHLS libraries, just as adults can reserve materials found in the main catalog. The format of the new kids' catalog is very similar to the main catalog so young people will be prepared to move on when ready.
As always, parents are encouraged to help their young children select books and other materials appropriate for their reading and maturity levels. If you need help when using the online kids' catalog or would like additional reading suggestions, your local librarian is always available to assist you.
