Adam Levy Announces Run for District Attorney
Position is uncontested

Adam Levy, an attorney in Putnam, has announced that he is running for the position of District Attorney. The following is his announcement.

"Over eight months ago on January 23, 2007 Adam Levy began his campaign to be Putnam County's next District Attorney. Since that time he has worked hard to garner the confidence of Putnam County residents. His success is obvious as his name will appear on November's ballot - without opposition.

"Before Adam and his wife decided to raise their family in Putnam County more than ten years ago, Adam's family had a residence in Putnam Valley where they would spend weekends away from the city. "I love Putnam County from the Hudson River Valley to the Harlem River Valley, Putnam has so much to offer, Adam has often repeated." Adam and his wife Lori live in the Town of Southeast where they are raising their three young children.

"A 1992 graduate of Hofstra Law School, Adam participated in a program that provided law students an opportunity to work within the Brooklyn Family Court system. It was there that he got his first sense of the day to day challenges faced by young attorneys working within a busy family court. Upon graduation he was employed by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

" 'This was an exciting time for me; the District Attorney's office provided a great foundation that prepared me to understand the importance of working closely with police and other investigative agencies to prepare for criminal trials. I recall very clearly the impact of working in the Family Crime Bureau. I was responsible for prosecuting those who committed crimes against women and children. There are not too many things that are as dramatic and emotional as providing a voice for those who are too afraid to come forward or too young to understand.' Adam explained.

"Soon after Adam and his wife, Lori, moved to Putnam County, he co-founded a law practice in Carmel. For the past ten years he has practiced several aspects of law while staying very active with civic organizations. Mr. Levy has appeared as a keynote speaker at various law enforcement and civic associations, and has provided pro bono legal advice on Criminal, Family and Supreme Court proceedings to those in need.

"Adam Levy is a member and past President of the Putnam County Bar Association, past-President of the Putnam County Child Care Council and member of the Board of Directors of the Putnam County Legal Aid Society.

"When asked what he thinks best suits him for the position of Putnam County District Attorney, Mr. Levy said that he will weave the experiences he obtained as an Assistant District Attorney with those from private practice to provide the residents of Putnam County with a well-balanced office. "Foremost I understand the requirement that the District Attorney's Office follow the letter of the law when initiating a prosecution, while at the same time obeying the mandates of the Constitution that apply equally to all those accused. I am strongly aware that it is important to balance the community's need for safety and security while protecting the tax payer from erroneous lawsuits. After all, it's the residents of Putnam County to whom I am accountable."
