CAREERS for People with Disabilities, Inc. Receives Prestigious Putnam Community Service Network Award

The Putnam Community Service Network (PCSN), a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, held its' Annual Awards Breakfast on Friday, September 28, 2007. The ceremony, held at Guideposts Associates in Carmel, was well attended by local dignitaries, leaders in the community, family, friends and associates of the many award nominees. CAREERS for People with Disabilities, Inc. (CAREERS) was among those in attendance, and the proud winners of the distinguished Norman Vincent Peale Outstanding Service Award.

Rebecca Appleyard, Carmel Program Coordinator, represented CAREERS on behalf of their Executive Director, Tina Cornish-Lauria, and was presented the award from Karl Rhode of the Putnam County Joint Veterans Council. CAREERS was nominated for their work in insuring that individuals with learning, developmental, psychiatric and/or physical disabilities experience the satisfaction of sustained and meaningful employment and self-reliance through job training, outreach, job placement and one on one, on-going support until the client is fully integrated into the workforce.

This non-profit community service agency has made over 1,500 individual job placements since its' inception twenty years ago. CAREERS helps disabled residents of Putnam and Westchester Counties through their successful Supported Employment Programs that offer services to high school students through senior adults. All CAREERS services are provided free of charge to clients and employers. In addition to receiving the PCSN prestigious award, CAREERS received congratulations from NYS Senator Vincent Leibell, Certificates of Merit from NYS Assembly members Gregory Ball and Sandra Galef, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation from Putnam County Executive, Robert Bondi.
