County Holding Household Hazardous Waste and Computer/TV/Cell Phone Cleanup Day
The Putnam County Department of Health and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are cosponsoring a free Household Hazardous Waste and Computer/ TV/Cell Phone Cleanup Day scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 9am to 1pm (rain or chine) at Fahnestock State Park, Canopus Beach Parking Lot on Route 301 in Kent. Putnam County residents will be provided with an opportunity to safely dispose of toxic materials such as: household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, oil (not waterbased) paint, automotive solvents, old televisions, computers and cell phones. Disposal items will only be accepted if they are labeled and identifiable.
Items which will not be accepted are water-based paints (latex), tires, propane tanks or any materials from commercial establishments. Household products for cleaning, gardening, maintenance or hobbies are safe when used and stored correctly. Improper storage or disposal of waste poses a health risk to residents and their families. The Cleanup Day provides a way to remove toxic products from homes in an environmentally safe matter.

To get to the Cleanup Day from Philipstown, take Route 301 East towards Carmel. The Beach parking entrance is located after the large lake on the left hand side of Rt. 301. From Putnam Valley, take the Taconic State Parkway North to the Route 301 West exit. Beach Parking lot is on the right.
