My friend, Nat Prentice To the Editor:
My friend, Nat Prentice, was out in front of our local supermarket a while back, garnishing the unsuspecting, getting signatures on his petition so that he could run as an Independent candidate for Town Council.
My 16-year-old son, Will Benjamin, was riding shotgun in my pickup as we pulled into the parking lot. (With a little counselling) Will asked Nat , "Mr. Prentice, what can you do when you get elected to help make it possible for me and other young people to be able to live here in the future?" That is a very tough question (one that I hope all the candidates will address).
No snap answer came out here...rather "Let me work on it." Nat has produced the right answer. "Growth must pay its own way." Simply put, the new people that we welcome into our community can not burden the rest of us with the costs of the services, the infrastructure that they require. Also the Town must come up with ways to reduce costs.
Nat grew up in Philipstown. He returned home to the place he has always loved,Garrison, after a banking career. Since his return, he has worked hard to keep this the place that will welcome home his children whenever that day may come.
I think that Nat is the person who will continue to work long hours for this vision, and thats one of the reasons I'm voting for him on Nov.6. I urge you to give him your vote, as well.
