Nat Prentice can Bring Actionable Ideas to the Table
Dear Editor:

As the November election approaches, it is time for the people of Philipstown to decide among a panel of five individuals for two vacancies on the Philipstown Town Board. We are entering into a time when our standard of living is being challenged by budgetary constraints and rising taxes. Philipstown has a budget of almost $8 million and yet currently, no board member has any background in finance or accounting. It is time to elect to our Town Board a person who understands the intricacies of the financial world and can bring specific, actionable ideas to the table that will preserve and expand our current services without equating every dime in with an extra dime from the taxpayer.

Nat Prentice is an independent candidate for Town Board with years of experience in the financial industry, currently working as Vice President and Investment Officer at M & T Bank in Fishkill. He has specific ideas for Philipstown, which include increasing code enforcement by hiring a Town Engineer, required training on municipal statutes and codes for Board members and employees, expanding regional partnerships, and finding other non tax sources of revenue. He also wants to mandate cyclical renegotiations of current municipal contracts, opening them up for outside bids to ensure our town is getting the best services for the best price. He is interested in making our local government more accessible to citizens by expanding the Town's use of the internet and rotating meeting sites. In addition, he hopes to improve government transparency by implementing an "understanding your taxes" report so that each Philipstown tax payer can see exactly where their tax dollars are going. All these ideas and more are presented on his website www.natprentice.com.

I have no doubt that every candidate for Town Board loves Philipstown and wishes to see its natural beauty and way of life maintained. However, vague generalities cannot be implemented to the benefit of our community. What is needed now is a person with the understanding and experience to translate specific ideas into measurable results. That person is Nat Prentice. Please join me in supporting Nat Prentice on November 6.
