BOCES Sponsors Marine Ecology Trip to Key Largo for High School Students
High school students wishing to study marine biology, go snorkeling and kayaking, and even swim with dolphins can embark on a week-long trip to Key Largo organized by the Center for Environmental Education (CEE) at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES.
The trip, which will take place during spring break (April 19- 25 2007 for Putnam/ Westchester schools) includes classes on tropical ecology and coral reef ecology among others. Field trips include boat trips to the coral reefs where participants can snorkel or scuba dive, a dive to an undersea hotel and lab for the divers, a trip to the everglades, swimming with dolphins, and an overnight camping trip to a mangrove island.
Chaperones for the trip will be members of the CEE staff and local teachers, who will also provide program instruction along with marine biologists and diving instructors from the Keys.
The cost for the excursion is approximately $1,600, which includes room and board, all program components, and ground transportation in Florida. Airfare is not included. Participants will stay at Sunset Cove Resort, on the bay side of Key Largo.
