Philipstown Flag Hawks Topple White Plains
 | | Brandon Twoguns out distances the opposition in last week's victory |
| On Sunday October 7 the Philipstown Flag Hawks traveled to Beacon to take on White Plains. Philipstown won the toss and elected to start on defense. White Plains utilized their speed early but Philipstown was up to the task. Defensive ends Nate Allen and Wilson Thorpe turned the White Plains backs inside so the defensive line could give help. At the half it was a close game with White Plains clutching to a 6-0 lead.
In the second half Philipstown started with the ball and got their legs underneath them. Quarterback Tyler Outhouse orchestrated a long drive alternating between running backs Nicholas DiPalo, Thomas Percacciolo and Brandon Twoguns. The offensive line of Joey DiGregorio, VJ Fina, Anthony Lombardo and Nick Telesco fired off the ball to open up holes for the backs. Twoguns capped the drive with a touchdown run followed by an extra point from Outhouse on a quarterback keeper.
The defensive then stepped up and Philipstown was able to get the ball back. Philipstown quickly marched down the field with a long touchdown run from Twoguns giving the Hawks a 13-6 lead. White Plains stormed right back cutting the lead to 13-12 on a 60-yard touchdown run of their own.
With seven minutes left in the game Philipstown again marched down the field behind the strong work of their offensive line. They were able to punch it in for a 19-12 lead, but White Plains had two minutes left on the clock to try for the win. But it was time for the Hawks 'D' to step up again. Matthew Champlin continued his strong inside play all game and was able to record several sacks on the final drive push White Plains deep into their own end. Michael Chefalo and Sam Giachinta teamed with Champlin on the final drive with Giachinta making a game-saving tackle on third down.
The team played hard all game and was rewarded with the win. Philipstown travels to Newburgh to take on Northern Dutchess next Sunday.
