Suspicious Activity Report Leads to Drug Charges
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the October 6, 2007 arrest of an 18-year-old Southeast youth after he was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana during an investigation into a citizen's report of suspicious activity.
At about 2:45am on October 6 deputies were dispatched to a report of suspicious activities and vehicles along a culde sac on the Southeast / Putnam Lake border. During the course of their Investigation the deputies located a pair of vehicles and 8-10 teens and young adults parked along the roadway. Further investigation revealed that one of the subjects was in possession of a glass smoking pipe and a quantity of marijuana.
Deputy Alexander Ruhe arrested Peter Hanke of Brewster and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation under the Penal Law of the State of New York. The defendant was issued an appearance ticket and released pending an October 24, 2007 appearance In the Town of Southeast Justice Court.
If convicted of the offense the defendant faces a monetary fine not to exceed $100. None of the other subjects present were charged with any offenses.
