Larceny Charges Lodged Against Dutchess County Man
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a 42-year-old Pawling man after deputies investigated a shoplifting complaint at a Town of Southeast business.
On October 5, 2007 at about 6pm Deputy Sheriff Andrew Kristan responded to the Golf Pro store In the Highlands Plaza for a local merchant's complaint that a subject had entered the store for a golf lesson and after completing the lesson removed a case of golf balls from the counter, secreted them under a towel and left the store without making payment for the items. After viewing a store security tape of the incident and confirming the theft the deputy made contact with the suspect and arranged for him to surrender himself at the scene.
William H. Anderson of Pawling was taken into custody and charged with 1 count of misdemeanor Petit Larceny. The defendant was processed at the Sheriff's Department headquarters in Carmel and released on his own recognizance pending a November 7, 2007 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court.
If convicted of the crime the defendant faces a maximum penalty of up to 1 year in jail and or a monetary fine not to exceed $1,000.
