Bill Mazucca as Child Advocate?
Dear Editor:

As a parent of young children, I am in receipt of an invitation to a meet-the-candidates party where Bill Mazzuca is planning to give out "Free Children's Books" while discussing his candidacy's "special emphasis on serving the children of our community". What?

There's a place where any Philipstown child can use thousands of books, magazines, CD's and videos or attend dozens of child-centered programs for free. It's the Butterfield Library. But access to this resource has been directly jeopardized over the past year by the actions of Mr. Mazzuca. How many children's books could have been bought with the legal fees the library has incurred fighting against Mr. Mazzuca's denial of voter-approved library funds? Certainly more than he's planning to give away at his political party this weekend.

Maybe fourteen years in office is long enough that one loses the ability to recognize irony.
