New York State Elks Association Announce Scholarship Competition

Exalted Ruler John N. Calbo of Brewster Lodge 2101 announced a joint Elks National Foundation and New York State Elks Association scholarship competition for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Elks National Foundation "Most Valuable Student - Finalist" Scholarship/Leadership Award, open to all New York State Hugh School Seniors, will offer 25 scholarships ranging in amounts from $1,000 to $15,000 each per year for four years. These awards to New York students will be part of the Elks program providing over 3,500 scholarships aggregating about $3,000,000. The New York State Elks Association will also offer approximately 60 NYS "Allocated" $1,000 one-year non-renewable awards. Any eligible student may apply; the student need not be the child of a member of the Elks.

In addition, the New York State Elks Association will grant approximately, 35 new $1,000 one year scholarship awards in a statewide competition, plus approximately 28 one year $1,000 grants to present scholarship winners who are applying for additional financial aid. In addition, 17 "Special Merit" one-year $1,000 awards will be given to New-York-State Elks Association applicants showing a need for financial assistance to continue with their education. These awards are open to High School Seniors or College Students through their junior year, whose parent is, or was at the time of death, a member in good standing of the Order of Elks.

Applications for both awards are available at the High Schools or at the local Elks Lodge.

Exalted Ruler John N. Calbo has named William R. Miller, III of Brewster Lodge 2101 as Scholarship Chairman to administer this program for local students who wish to compete. Additional information about this program can be obtained by calling him at (845) 406-2553
