Philipstown Flag Hawks Fall to Raiders

On Sunday October 14 the Philipstown Flag Hawks traveled to Newburgh to take on the Raiders from Northern Dutchess. Things started off well for the Hawks as they won the opening coin toss and elected to receive the ball first.

On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Tyler Outhouse handed the ball to Brandon Twoguns and 50 yards later the Hawks had a 6-0 lead. A bootleg by Outhouse for the extra point put the Hawks up 7-0.

The Hawks welcomed back Michael Champlin, who teamed up with brother Matthew to anchor the inside of the defensive line. Sam Giachinta, Michael Chefalo and Kevin Barry helped them to stop Northern Dutchess on their first drive. Joey DiGregorio stepped up and was grabbing flags on almost every play. Wilson Thorpe and Nicholas DiPalo patrolled the outside, forcing everything back toward the middle.

Near the end of the first half the Raiders struck on a long touchdown run leading to a 7- 7 halftime tie. Northern Dutchess struck first in the second half jumping out to at 13-7 lead.

Philipstown mounted a drive with Luke Junjulas running the ball behind the strong blocking of Anthony Lombardo, VJ Fina, Thomas Percacciolo and Nicholas Telesco. Twoguns capped off the drive with a touchdown run, knotting the score at 13.

Northern Dutchess came right back with a long drive of their own and went up by 7. Philipstown showed a lot of heart and marched the ball down the field in the final minutes of the game but were stopped on a fourth down attempt leaving the final score to read 20-13 in favor of the Raiders.
