Philipstown Junior Pee Wee Hawks Defeat Hyde Park

Coming off a tough loss two weeks ago to New Paltz, the Philipstown Junior Pee Wee Hawks came back this week to defeat Hyde Park in a hard fought game 13-12 at Hyde Park.

Following the opening kickoff the Hawks stuffed Hyde Park on its first drive through hard tackles registered by defensive line members Tommy D'Eustachio, Matt Koval and Sachin Sanmugaraja . The Hawks took over at the Hyde Park 37-yard line and the drive ended five plays later with a 10 yard run by fullback Jordan Panthen, who tallied 24 total yards on the drive. Half-backs Will Moss and Ryan McCollum supplied the remaining rushing yards on the drive and Ryan McCollum scored the pivotal extra point which proved to be the difference in the game.

On the ensuing kick-off the Hawks recovered a fumble on the Hyde Park 43-yard line but unfortunately after several solid runs by the backs the Hawks fumbled and the drive ended at the Hyde Park 12 yard line. The Hawk's defense stiffened and stopped Hyde Park on four successive plays and took the ball over at the Hyde Park 45- yard line. This next scoring drive featured 32 yards from Will Moss, the majority of which were gained on a 27 yard slashing run. The drive was capped by a Tyler Giachinta 1 yard quarterback sneak.

Hyde Park fought back on the next drive, which covered 58 yards in three plays. The Hawks moved the ball well on the next drive but unfortunately Hyde Park recovered a fumble at our own 45 yard line and converted to score on a 47 yard passing play and the teams went into half-time with the score Hawks 13 - Hyde Park 12. The second half began with two unsuccessful drives by each team and continued hard-hitting football on both sides of the ball.

On Hyde Park's second drive linebacker Nick Allen read the quarterback and intercepted a pass at our own 15 yard line with Hyde Park threatening to score. The Hawks failed to mount a solid drive and Hyde Park took over on downs at our 10 yard line. The defense again fought hard and stopped Hyde Park on 4 successive plays and the Hawks again took over at their own 12-yard line.

The game was finally put out of reach when Jordan Panthen broke free for a 50 yard run to the Hyde Park 23 yard line which was followed by the final whistle. The entire team of 17 players should be commended on this hard won victory and for the heart and drive they displayed until the very last play.

The Hawks are now 2-3, and, more importantly, 2-1 in their division. The Junior Pee Wee Hawk's final regular season game is vs. Hudson Valley B at Mayor's Park on Sunday, October 21 at 3pm. Please come out and support the team. Go Hawks!!
