Salvage Chic & The Unique: New Exhibit at GAC
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something "green"? ….could be the theme of the exhibition opening October 27th at Garrison Art Center, in the Gillette Gallery.
Over 20 artists, most who live and work here in the Hudson Valley, have on exhibit unique items for the Home. They have used their creative collective genius to present an eclectic mix of whimsical, beautiful and functional items that are for the most part salvaged and repurposed into useful artistic object d'art. The show however is not limited to just salvage, but also to the unique or individual product or service that applies to the decorative arts: tiles, mosaics, lamps, textiles, furniture, pillows: the more imaginative, the better. The exhibit was organized by interior designer, Maryann Syrek of Cold Spring. Ms. Syrek is the owner of M. Studio Gallery and has worked extensively on projects here and in the Metropolitan area. She is also an art curator and serves on the Board of Garrison Art Center.
Most items are for sale, of which many are one-of-a-kind pieces, and others may be custom ordered. For anyone who is thinking about giving their home a "face lift" what better way to do it than by introducing artistic pieces recycled from otherwise discarded objects that will brighten your environment in many ways.
Also, running concurrently in the adjoining Anita Balter Gallery at Garrison Art Center is the Tea That Creates Art - Art That Creates Tea show. Both exhibitions run October 27- November 17. All are invited to the opening reception October 27 from 5-8pm.
