Hudson Valley Hauntings Discussed at Smalley's Inn
What do Wappinger Chief Daniel Nimham, George Denny, the only person hanged in Putnam County and an unnamed spiritual manifestation said to haunt Smalley's Inn have in common?
Vin Dacquino knows. He's written about each of them in his book titled Hauntings of the Hudson River Valley: An Investigative Journey. The book was released on Mon., Oct.15 by The History Press.
Dacquino, who holds a B.A. in Education from Mercy College, a M.Ed. in Reading from City College of New York, and a Masters in Administration from the College of New Rochelle, has taught in the Westchester School system for more than thirty years. He is the author of several books for young children including a biography of Sybil Ludington, a sixteen-year-old heroine of the Revolutionary War.
In his book, Dacquino interviews local experts, explores areas where hauntings may have occurred- such as Carmel's legendary Smalley's Inn- and digs deep into historical archives to open new windows into the lives and possible afterlives of these three mysterious characters.
Meet Dacquino at Smalley's Inn, 57 Main Street in Carmel, on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sat., Oct. 27 from 2-5pm. The author will be available for book signings, talks and tours. For further information call Smalley's Inn at (845) 225- 9874.
