Sprinkler Fitters Recruit Apprentices

The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sprinkler Fitters, Local 669 (Hudson Valley), will conduct recruitment from November 4, 2007 through April 26, 2008 for five apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the U.A. Training Center, 1024 McKinley St., Peekskill, from 8:30am to 10:30am, on the following Saturdays: November 4 and 18; December 2 and 16; January 5 and 19; February 2 and 16; March 8 and 29 and April 12 and 26. Completed applications must be mailed to Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, P.O. Box 580, White Plains, NY 10603.

The committee requires that applicants:

* Be at least 18 years old. * Have a high school or equivalency diploma. * Have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction. * Take a physical examination and a drug test at the committee's expense, after acceptance for the program. * If a veteran, submit a copy of their DD 214.

Proof of education and veteran status must be submitted at the time of indenture.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the sponsor at 845-724- 5432.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
